Last Wednesday afternoon after school, Mckayla told me, "Mom! I need you to sew me an Indian costume for my Thanksgiving feast tomorrow! I am supposed to dress up as an Indian and we have to have costumes."
It was a crazy day, lots to do, I was playing solo-mom since Casey was on shift and so without thinking of things like 'there was no note from the teacher about it' or 'they usually wear construction paper hats as a costume', I was more in the mode of, "Ok, well if there's one more thing to add to the list today, let's hurry and get moving on it!" All the meanwhile, laughing at her suggestion that I sew her something! HAHA! As if! This momma does not sew.
So I came up with an idea and we ran to Michael's!
A plain brown t-shirt, fringed and I puff painted 'turquoise beads' on it. We already had a leather headband and I just added feathers to it. Pretty great huh?!? She was SOOOO excited!!!
Here she is sitting with her class of Pilgrims and Indians during her Thanksgiving feast. Now, do you notice that they are all wearing construction paper costumes? Well, here's the rest of the story.
I was helping out as a class mom and was talking to her teacher while watching the kids party and I told her about Mckayla's costume and what she had told me the afternoon before about needing one. Her teacher started laughing and said, "Would you like me to tell you my side?" Apparently on Wednesday during school when the kids were starting to make their construction paper costumes Mckayla told her teacher, "I do not need a costume made out of paper because my mom is making me an Indian costume." The little stinker right!? But we all laughed so hard about it!
She enjoyed her Thanksgiving feast and her costume and if it made her feel a little bit extra special I guess that's not a bad thing!
