I made this Barn Quilt for my mom and dad for Christmas. (Google 'barn quilt' if you're not familiar with what it is) I wish you could see it better, there is red barb wire around the sides.
Anyway...my mom is a quilter and we have a distant cousin who paints barn quilts and told me about them awhile back. I thought it would be something my mom would really enjoy putting on her little barn at the back of their property...she put it on the side of her house instead to be more visible. Haha.
This is not a traditional barn quilt--I took some creative license and pretty much did my own version, but I was also extremely pleased with the results. The center is a Texas Star quilt block and the corners are West Virginnie Moonshine quilt blocks. (Because we're now in Texas but my parents and their heritage is West Virginia). I loved how the wood looked in this piece and so I opted to leave it and just stain it, versus painting the entire piece.
My parents love it and for that I am thrilled! They even want me to create a couple more...Casey wants me to recreate the Texas Star on a table that we have. Looks like I might have a new mini-hobby.
